Many people struggle to find their own tailored skincare routine. It took me a good six years to be satisfied with mine! What you need to know is that it is okay if your routine is different from someone else’s. I have a beginner-friendly skincare routine for clear glowing skin that’s completely different from what’s recommended by popular idols and sites. The overwhelming number of products in the beauty and skincare aisle doesn’t make it any easier. So, I have compiled a basic skincare routine for beginners to help you take it easy and begin to transform your skin day by day. This routine helped me get rid of my acne, reduce my dark spots, and give me that glowing skin everyone around me compliments.
Important Note: Personalized Skincare
Before I get started, I wanted to tell you that I am not a dermatologist. However, I believe not everyone needs a morning and night routine. I personally only wash my face once a day, and I still have clear skin. Washing your face twice a day depends on your needs. For example, if you do a lot of sports or wear a lot of makeup, a morning and night routine might be essential. Here’s a simple once-a-day routine. Check out my post on the [best morning and night routine](#) for a complete breakdown.
Basic 5-Step, Beginner-friendly Skincare Routine for clear, glowing skin:
1. Cleanser
Cleansing is crucial due to the pollution, sun exposure, and dirt that can get on your face. If you want clear skin, cleansing is a must. I recommend cleansers that are gentle and suited to your skin type. Don’t forget to exfoliate your skin weekly if you are prone to acne. Setting up a daily, weekly, and monthly skin routine can be a real game changer.

2. Toner (Optional)
Though optional, I find toner very soothing for the skin. I use a rice water toner every day, which is cheap to make. I detail the DIY rice toner in my post on the 5 natural skincare must-haves.
3. Serum
Using a serum is effective for creating clear and glowing skin. I initially thought serums were a waste of money, but they can brighten and enliven your skin. If you have dark spots or hyperpigmentation, I recommend a vitamin C serum. For scarring, try rosehip oil. For anti-aging, consider retinol or vitamin A. For bouncy, dewy-looking skin, opt for a collagen-based serum.

4. Moisturizer
Moisturizing is crucial as it creates a barrier to protect your skin from damage and provides UV protection if you use an SPF. I recommend lightweight moisturizers that won’t clog your pores. I use a gel-based one.
5. Sunscreen
If your moisturizer contains SPF, this step may be unnecessary. Otherwise, please use sunscreen to protect your skin from damage, even if it’s a little cloudy or not too sunny. You can also make your DIY sunscreen if you prefer natural skincare.
